- The PPN1 flare was unused and in bad condition, we dismantled it
- A 3.2 strut was positioned above the last shrouds
- A second 3.2 t strut at the foot, in the draft
- A third 3.2 t haul-off, at the foot and in restraint
- The first idea was to lift the flare vertically and to cut sections from the top to the bottom
- The flare could not rotate. The axis was blocked by rust in the padeyes
- The padeyes at the foot were cut out with a flashlight, the torchiere turned 1⁄4 of a turn
- We slid it onto the platform in traction and still in restraint, laid on the ground
- The shrouds and the brace were still connected and ensured the safety and position of the torchiere – Once fully on deck, it was cut into 3 parts and stowed for disposal
